Virgin Galactic Signs 20 Year Lease with New Mexico Spaceport

One of the biggest hurdles to the commercial space industry was recently cleared as Virgin Galactic signed a 20 year lease agreement with New Mexico's Spaceport America in December. This agreement comes on the heals of the FAA granting Spaceport a launch license for commercial space flight.

Construction begins in the first quarter of 2009 with the hangar facility planned for opening in 2010. Test flights are being conducted in the Mojave Desert by Virgin Galactic. This has been an amazing run of events for an idea that started in the early 90's by a group of New Mexico State University researchers.
